The question asked by ResponsibleSports.com is:
“As a parent, how do you encourage and reinforce the positive aspects of youth sports?”
As the mother of a 2 year old who is in love with football and enjoys every other sport he’s seen or tried to play, I can see lots of sporting events in our future. Rangers games. Family football games. Home school basketball team, and soccer with friends.
I think team sports are a great way to put some very important life skills into practice. Team work, respect for fellow players and your coach, and an appreciation for the game at hand. These character traits are important in all areas of life and will serve a grown man well whether he’s an employee or business owner.
For our two year old, sports are played in the front yard with mom and dad. We kick soccer balls back and forth, throw his child-size football and toss a foam basketball into his Little Tikes hoop. For a 2 year old, I’d say he’s pretty gifted. He’s better at getting the balls where he wants them than I am!! And, he shares too. Granted, his knowledge of the rules and plays could use some improvement!
What sports does your family enjoy during the summer?
